ABOUT THE JEEP DATABASE

The history of the jeep is a long and storied one. Ever since I got into jeeps after watching the movie Jurassic Park, I’ve been on the hunt for a single resource that compiles all these iconic vehicles to study how they’ve evolved over time. When I first looked into the history of the jeep, it was overwhelming. So many models, so many trim packages, and so many after-market add-ons that make it all quite confusing. With this in mind, I set out to learn and document the entire history of the jeep, compile it into a single resource, and share that resource with the world, for free. If you also feel overwhelmed by all the jeeps out there, a good place to start is the Jeep Family Tree, which charts the relationships between all the models throughout time.

The scope of the project has expanded over time, and this website is the eventual result. This is a personal passion project for me, so I don’t have a singular goal in mind, and I will be adding more content over time.

It’s fairly easy to find information on more popular models, but lower-selling and obscure models are tough to find detailed information for. With this in mind, I spent lots of hours searching the internet for original sources, which gave me a pretty solid foundation. For everything I couldn’t find, I filled in the gaps based on related models. Because of this, I can’t claim everything here is exactly correct. If you find anything that looks wrong, please let me know.

Throughout The Jeep Database, I use the term jeep to describe the vehicle, not the brand currently associated with the term. For this reason, I don’t capitalize it. This is why I refer to the wrangler jeep, rather than the Jeep® Wrangler. This allows me to bring all the jeeps together into a single resource without having to distinguish between all the corporate ownership changes throughout the years. The Jeep Database is interested in the jeeps themselves, rather than the corporate machinations of the manufacturer.
